Antabuse

Antabuse (disulfiram) is efficient for patients diagnosed with chronic alcoholism who did not respond to other treatment methods or they were not efficient enough for them. The person taking Antabuse must not drink any amounts of alcohol during two weeks from the moment the last dose was taken as the effects can be felt even then. If you happen to ingest some alcohol when taking Antabuse the following effects can be experienced: thirst, flushing, fast heartbeats, vertigo, and low blood pressure, nausea, chest pain, and some others. You also need to remember that there are a number of products that contain alcohol but are not considered to be alcoholic. Nevertheless, you can experience the effects of Antabuse even when using these products with small amounts of alcohol.

While some mild side effects, such as mild headache, tiredness, drowsiness, skin rash and acne are not supposed to be reported to your health care provider unless they become particularly bothersome, you should call your doctor as soon as possible if you experience loss of appetite, upset stomach, dark urine, jaundice, excessive tiredness and vomiting as these are more serious side effects of Antabuse.
